A Message from the Vice Principal

April 24, 2018

Aloha Kihei Elementary ‘Ohana,

Fourth quarter is a busy time of year and I’d like to take the time to remind everyone of our pick up and drop off procedures. Safety is always our highest priority while doing our best to keep the traffic lines moving. We appreciate your cooperation with this matter.

Beginning at 7:00 am the morning, drop off is held in two locations: the bus gates on the lower field along Liloa Drive and in front of the office. You may drop off your child at the bus gates or if you wish to park and walk your child onto campus, please use the available parking along Liloa Drive or off campus. If parking off campus, please use the crosswalk to safely walk your child onto campus.

The second location to drop off in the morning is by the office. This is a drop off only site. There is no parking in this area. Please pull your car up into the drop off lane as far to the top as you can. This allows for other vehicles to pull in the area. Have your student ready to exit the vehicle promptly on the passenger side. Please do not stop your vehicle to have your student exit outside of the drop off area or in front of the cafeteria. This holds up the traffic flow. There are no drop offs behind the cafeteria or by A building.

Afternoon pick up is held in one location only: the bus gates on the lower field. Magenta gate is used for pick up until the buses leave. The adult supervisors will only release the student(s) if the legal parent or guardian is present near the gate. After school, the loading area is used for buses. To accommodate the traffic flow on Liloa Drive and Lipoa Street, the adult supervisor will direct parents to park if there are parking spaces available or to drive around again. If students are at magenta gate and are ready for immediate pick up, the adult supervisor will escort the child to the car at this time.

Once the buses leave, curbside pick up begins. To continue the smooth flow of traffic, the adult supervisor will move all students to the blue gate. Please pull your car up to the blue gate and the adult supervisors will radio for your child to exit the gate and come to the vehicle. Our supervisors are able to recognize many of the cars and call for your child in advance which helps the traffic flow. The adult supervisors will escort the remaining students to the office at 2:20 pm (1:35 pm on Wednesdays). There is no pick up in front of the office except for after school clubs and after 2:20 pm.

We recommend parents and guardians to communicate after school arrangements with their child. Please make the necessary on time pick up arrangements. The YMCA A+ program is available for working parents who need after school care. They can be contacted at 808-242-9007.

Your patience is appreciated. Let’s all work together to make our last weeks of the school year a safe one!
